		<description>Another thing to keep in mind is that Asterisk isn&#039;t the only game in town. They are, by far, the biggest OSS telephony player, but they&#039;re not the only player. Choosing an OSS telephony platform also means thinking about the capabilities of the system. Does it need to scale? Does it need special features like wideband or ultra-wideband codecs? Is TDM needed? For VoIP, do I need a PBX? A proxy? A soft-switch? Obviously a lot is involved. 

For the record, my favorite platform is FreeSWITCH. Check it out. www.freeswitch.org
